October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but here at Hollings Cancer Center, our researchers are thinking about it all the time, all year long. And donations from generous employees like you are enabling them to continually explore new ways to treat and ultimately cure the disease.
Hollings Cancer Center researcher Elizabeth Yeh, Ph.D., is studying how breast cancer cells become resistant to treatment. Drug resistance is one of the biggest challenges to finding a cure for breast cancer.
Dr. Yeh’s research focuses on an enzyme known to make breast cancer cells grow and spread. She’s testing whether it also causes breast cancer cells to evolve and become drug resistant. Understanding how the enzyme works may lead to new and innovative therapies for one of the deadliest cancers for women in South Carolina.
Thank you for supporting this important research through the YES Campaign. Your gift makes it possible for Dr. Yeh and other researchers to make the discoveries that will lead to tomorrow’s treatments.
