Three-pack-a-day smoker discovers tricks to break her addiction
“If I can quit, anybody can.” Deborah Giles smoked three packs a day for decades and had given up hope of ever quitting before meeting Katherine Hoover, PharmD, who helped her find success. Hoover is part of MUSC Health’s Tobacco Treatment Program housed at the Hollings Cancer Center. She wants to help all smokers quit, particularly those with cancer, since smoking decreases the success of cancer treatment and can increase the chance it may reoccur. With Hoover’s guidance, a personalized plan, and much support, Giles has now been smoke-free for two years.
